Hello .
Has anyone driven the Route 10 Phonsavan - Muang Khoune - Thathom - Pakxan now ??
We are a group coming from Vietnam to Phonsavan 3 mars.
If anybody can help with an update on that route, if its paved the hole road :-)
Thanks for all the help
Regards
Helge from Norway

Road 1D (some maps have this as road 10) from Phonsavan to Muang Khoune to Thatom and Thasi is all paved although there are a few places where landslides have happened but these places are being repaired - see http://www.rideasia.net/motorcycle-forum/laos-information/106-road-development-road-construction-laos-4.html#post37285

The road from Thasi to Phamuang (Rd. 5101) is bad but can be done on a bike but it will be very dusty (thick layers of the very fine powdery dust) and on a heavy bike it will be hard work. More info here (sorry, no pictures as I was busy keeping my truck on the road): http://www.rideasia.net/motorcycle-forum/laos-information/106-road-development-road-construction-laos-4.html#post37283 and here: http://www.rideasia.net/motorcycle-forum/laos-information/106-road-development-road-construction-laos-4.html#post38091

The road from Phameuang to Pakxan is OK but there are also quite a lot of potholes in the northern end of the road from Phamuang to Mueang Borikham

Alternatives from Phonsavan to Vientiane are Rd 7 to Phoukhoun and then south on Rd 13 to Vientiane (all good roads) or the long way, assuming that need to go to Vientiane, is to head further south-east along Road 1D from Thasi to Ban Pakha on Road 8 and then west to Rd 13 and to Pakxan and Vientiane.
