Just received messages from forum member Sergio that if you have a loud aftermarket exhaust fitted to your motorcycle expect to be turned back on the Laos side, apparently he crossed through Thai immigration no problems and the Laos customs checked over his bike and opened the throttle and determined it was too loud and sent him back. This was also the case with some riders the previous day, luckily he found a metal shop near Thai customs that would fabricate a silencer plug.

Yes, the guys on the Lao side of this crossing are a PITA and almost every time I cross there they are checking everything that can be checked including the paperwork from the Thai side. Every time they go through every page of my passport both at the entry point about 100 meters before the Immigration/Customs building as well as the exit point about 100 meters past that same building.

Just to update on the Huay Khon crossing point, on the Laos side they will indeed check your bike and ask you to start it and rev it up. We decided after a heads up from Sergio to have a temp fix on the Thai side that could easily be removed, Steve has a FMF Q4 and would have definitely be sent back for a few baht we crossed with no bother. The guy who can do the work is located at N19.59609 E101.08588 situated at the head of the ramp on your right tucked away in a corner.
