Started this day's ride from St. Joseph's church and mission(18.45308 098.21245).
I stopped at the church to top up my water bottles before cycling down to a small village where I knew there was a shop. Bought some food for the day. Went back on myself for a few hundred metres and turned on to a dirt road. And started going up straight away.
Soon came to a concrete section that seemed to go on for ever. These are good for the locals but not good for biking on. You can never go that fast down them. After a few kms I forked off on a dirt road.
I soon started cycling through agricultural land. This time it was deserted. No people and no crops. Last time it was a hive of activity with it being harvest time.
Finally completed the last of the climb and was ready for the descent. I put my helmet on for this one. I'd been up the opposite way so I knew how steep it was. This has to be one of the most demanding downhills I have done. There's only really one line and not much room for error.
I passed a cow on the way down. There were not many level sections and these were short. But I was pleased to make it down with no mishaps.
After reaching the bottom I continued on a dirt road to Ban Sop Long where they have started working on the concrete bridge again. I rode on the suspension bridge which is falling in to disrepair and pretty dodgy in parts.
From Ban Sop Long to highway 1088 is now mostly concrete but still a nice ride along the Nam Mae Chaem.
From 1088 I rode to Hot to continue on to Chiang Mai.
I'd done this route the other way before and this time there was a lot more concrete roads and sections. Also I wonder why they are building such a big bridge at Ban Sop Long. Time will tell. It's still a good ride though. Get there while there's still some dirt.
