Been looking into making a group ride from Tachilek via Keng Thung to Mongla in the North, loosely the trip will include special entry permission, border-pass fees (person & bike), hotel room, meal, one guide and one government officer to clear documentation along the route. The trip will most likely be one night in Tachilek the next morning ride up to Keng Thung for the night and stop in Mongla for two nights to explore. Ride back to Tachilek and either cross over and head home or stop an additional night in Tachilek (at additional cost).

The numbers stack up to 16,500 Thai Baht per person if you want your own room and 13,500 Thai Baht if you want to share based on a group of ten.

We did this ride a couple of years back and really enjoyed it, if anybody is interested in the trip please PM me and if we get enough response i will make some firm plans.

Just to update interested people in the trip, as i mentioned the date looks to be the first week in August (Monday the 1st).

Documents required:

Copy of your driving license.
Copy of your passport (picture page and visa).
Copy of your green book or letter of authorisation from the owner.
Photographs of each side of your bike you plan to take (all four sides).
Passport photo.

Please bring original documents with you.

The package will include food and accommodation, one night in Tachilek, one night in Keng Thung and two nights in Mongla.

The route is paved although some sections may be a little broken up, on the last trip a section was pretty bad but that was under construction so most likely paved now.

Cost:

13,500 if you plan to share a room.

16,500 if you want your own room.

Option to stop an additional night in Tachilek at your own expense or cross over after the ride from Mongla.

Correct. However, those members travelling out of Thailand and intending to return on a visa exempt entry might want to consider getting a Myanmar visa, because the Thai side is reluctant to let foreigners leave here, who will be returning to Thailand on visa exempt. This is because without a Myanmar visa in your passport and using the 14-day border pass arrangement, you must return to Thailand the same way you came. If you enter Myanmar with a visa, Thai immigration won't say anything because they assume you could be travelling around Myanmar (as the visa allows) and flying out. Obviously this doesn't make sense if arriving with a vehicle (particularly if it's Thai registered) but as Thai immigration and customs are two separate things, always have a backup in case of problems.

Expats residing in Thailand on multiple entry visas or extensions of stay have nothing to worry about and can go the Myanmar visa on arrival route.

Thanks for the info, thus far only people residing in Thailand without visa exemption are coming along so i don't see any complications other than what i have mentioned in earlier requirements whereas the passport remains at the border without the need for an exit / entry stamp.

So I can leave my passport at Tachilek right? No need to get a re-entry stamp? That sounds like great news.
 
Max it's a VIP pass your passport never leaves the border and gets no stamp.

On the top of the minibus are jack fruit seedlings. The Thai Jack fruit is ready to harvest in only 3 years (from seedling), Myanmar 6-7 years. The Myanmar people travel all the way to Mae Sai to buy the baby trees.
