Today in Nation business section Dom owner of Britbike admits that Triumph total sales have been only 400 bikes over 6 years thats an average only 65 a year , Ducati have sold over 1200 bikes in one year and 209 in July this year alone, its obvious he wants to keep it an exclusive super expensive brand and it also appears he has Triumph UK tied into a Thai distribution deal they cant get out of including the need to treat all Triumphs as IMPORTS although factory insiders have intimated they would like too use BOI privelige to sell the Thai made models at more reasonable prices ......TIT . Thats why Ducati set up a different distribution system they want mass market sales here and he does not , Ducati are in control of their destiny in Thailand as are Kawasaki , honda etc......Triumph at present are not in control of the Thai distributer network a clear case of the tail waging the dog.

Being next door to the Triumph shop in Chiang Mai, it's been quite fascinating to watch the growth of their business in the last year. They seem to have developed a cult following in the last 6 months & the Bonneville has become extremely popular with the younger Thai generation that have a perception of Harley's being an old mans bike. Harley are fully aware of their brand image aging and have made good initiatives with new models such as the "48" (1200 sportster with peanut tank & under-bar mirrors) to try an attract a younger customer.

If Ducati make a 400k 795 hypermotard, as they did the monster, considering so much is shared.. It would be outselling Triumph even more.

I really hope this happens as it will force the Thai motorcycle market pricing into reality and totally re-adjust relative value. If you talk to the Triumph vendors here, they try and use the argument that the build quality of the Thai built Ducati's is inferior, will be fascinating if it happens.

I did hear the initial run of 795 monsters had some defects ?? But never heard any clarity on what those were and how Ducati handled it in a customer satisfaction side. Always am leary of customer service issues paying top dollar in an asian setup.

To me theres other issues at play also.. Not only are you paying top top dollar, and please dont give me the tax argument, how can grey importers, bring in the same bike paying a low volume or per bike shipping cost, pay the legal excise and import tax, pay a per bike registration fee of 80 - 100k which the manufacturers dont pay as they have homogenisation passed the engine package, pay all the bribes and 'fees', STILL make a profit and it STILL be way under the main dealer price ?? Sometimes by 100's of 1000's !!!

So not only are they screwing the profit margin, but then they provide no demo bikes, no test rides, no loaner while serviced, etc etc etc.. Some like BMW fail to have parts incountry so theres months waiting and all kinds of dodgy goings on (parts stripped from customer bikes) etc etc etc.. Its like premium pricing but none of the premium value addeds.

Ducati Pattaya have demo bikes , diavel and monster 795 and multistrada for certain ,
Ducati have new models in pipeline for certain probably a Hyper 795 ???Quality of local bikes is as good as local triumphs , this whole vehicle market needs a shake up not just in Bikes but car sales too,
many Thai dealers/Stealers? are lazy amateurs selling average products at premium prices with no backup or service

Triumph are in no position to criticise the build quality of other manufacturers products, if you saw the state of them after a couple of UK winters when they are in a real bad state unless kept off the roads.
Its a sore point with lots of Triumph owners here in the UK and when the complaints were made to Triumph their reply was along the lines of (you are supposed to wash them after use in the winter).
A poor response in my eyes
