A few months ago I discovered the beginning of what looked like a good ride, so yesterday I had a good look at it.

Along the #118 speedway for about 45kms from Doi Saket there's a turn-off on the left that goes under an archway ...

The concrete track winds through spectacular scenery within the Khun Chai and Sri Lanna National Parks
and passes a couple of small villages before becoming a dirt track.

My goal was to ride this track to Long Khot.

This ride has everything.
Rutted tracks, water crossings (nothing serious), steep inclines/declines, concrete bits, scenery,
solitude, friendly locals, powdery sand corners, birds chirping, flowing streams and, for the more adventurous, many side tracks.

Left here.

I took it easy, stopping frequently to 'take it all in' and for photos (of course!).
Only a couple of wrong turns, which were soon corrected.

The back-pack contained plenty of water and a few bananas, which were needed.

A cool day, blue sky, beautiful scenery and a bike made for these tracks.
Perfect.

Stop at the streams, remove the helmet and listen to perfect silence.
Apart from the chirping of the birds.

To give bikes and pedestrians a fair go during and after The Wet Season a couple of these bridges have been built.
Nice place to stop and take in the scenery.

The track eventually opens up onto a bitumen road into Ban Luang, following the Nam Mae Khot.

The #1001 to Chiang Mai is nearby.
I rode it, being politely waved through a Police Check near the Ban Luang junction.

Stopped here on #1001 for a late lunch and cappuccino; recommend this place, friendly people.

Doi Saket to Doi Saket was 167 kms and the CRF still had fuel in the tank after lots of 1[SUP]st[/SUP], 2[SUP]nd[/SUP],3[SUP]rd[/SUP] gear work.

A perfect day 'in the saddle'.

Map following thanks to Ally.

Nice ride. I'm missing Chiang Mai.

That is a beautiful area area to do rides. These tracks are not on the ESRI/NOSTRA GPS map but most of them, but not all, are on the North Thailand GPS map so if you are aching for a ride and want to do some exploring, get out now before the haze creeps in.

Just remembered.
I took a track up a very steep climb at one stage (can be seen on the map) and was met by a young guy on his step-through coming down the same track,
barely enough room for us to pass and certainly no place to stop and talk, but something caught my eye as we smiled and passed.
I eventually decided I was on the wrong track and found a patch of land to do a 6-point turn.
I descended and he was waiting down there to show me the correct track!
But what I was more interested in was the massive timber log he was hauling around on his bike!
I wanted to photograph him and his bike and, especially, his load and asked if I could do so.
He smiled and indicated this was not to be done.
'Understood', so we rode our respective ways.

Nice trail and photos.
Do you think the river crossing are doable on a scooter? (PCX)

I was always under the impression that those type of scooters were not suited for offroad riding, my Honda SH300i handbook stated do not use offroad.

Something to do the the variable transmission or something like that, I first did this trip on a Honda Wave but thats a manual gearbox so no problems
