Post your Asian bridge & water crossing photo's here

-just got this one from midnight mapper!

The Xe Lanong. Laos, bamboo bridge 262 meters long
long-bridge.jpg

Villagers at Ban Along will charge you 40,000 kip to cross this historical bridge, along the Ho Chi Minh Trail Rt 6981, Just 3.5k South West, of Muang Nong. Scene of vicious battles during the VietNam war.
The bridge tender is a 10 year kid, who is usually enjoying a swim.
For those on a budget, the truck ford is 900 Mtr to the North West.

Nong Khiew, Laos

About 110km NNE of Luang Prabang, Laos, the bridge across the Nam Ou river, in Nong Khiew is breathtaking - don't miss it ( I think Mr. Rossi may have taken this photo with my camera).

Mark Rossi may have taken this with my camera, so I can't take credit for it.

Nam kor, laos

Another beauty from midnight mapper, the bamboo bridge in Nam Kor, Laos.
nam-kor%20bridge.jpg

Just upstream from washed out cement bridge, on the Nam Kor is one of many bamboo bridges of this type of construction.
Laos, ingenuity, engineering and construction! the cost of this bridge is an investment of time from the villagers of B.Phonsavang!

Nam Phak, Laos "bridge"

Another priceless example from midnight mapper! Nam Phak, laos.
i was laughing too much to post this one!
nam-pak%20bridge.jpg

4 years to cross, the first 2 times I tried to cross this bridge was under construcion and the cement was still wet
2008, 2009-10 floods took it away, Now in 2011 we have a large bamboo raft and new bridge being constructed.

The "raft" part!
nam%20Phak%20raft.jpg

Lucky crossing, I jumped aboard this raft with 2 bikes and 4 people. How much? 20,000 Kip.
On the return trip I realized this is "Do it yourself" so I paid the other passengers, for the first ride!

Re: Post your Asian bridge photo's here

here we go
!st question- where is it?
2nd question- how do you get across it? (the water is too deep to walk)

and a couple more
3260001348_15168a9760.jpg

I fell off on one of these, Finn, the guy with me lifted the back to get the wheel central on the log.
I wasnt expecting this, and I was caught offbalance and thrown off the seat into the crevass below.
he was left there on the log, holding the bike, and couldnt see where I'd gone, nor what happened to me

Re: Post your Asian bridge photo's here

One log bridge... reminds me of alovely place for swim, about 9Ks south of Osam. STUNG RUSSEI CHRUM? maybe? Wishing I was there, not in front of this screen!

Re: Post your Asian bridge photo's here

My favorite so far from midnight mapper -this one is spectacular! (look at the angle of the middle pillar under the roadway)

Nam Nga, Laos
92mtrsoffun.jpg

I did not take my turn, at "92 meters of Fun" until I saw several scooters try it and live!

-Alex --very nice bridge pictures too.

Xam Tai bamboo suspension bridge

One more from the king of bridge photo's, midnight mapper! The Xam Tai bamboo suspension bridge.

xamtaisusp%20bridge.jpg

I didn't dare ride across this bridge, but I bet you could. All bamboo and wood with some solid wire!

Alex --looks like thats flowing pretty fast, lots of pressure on the bike. (Elton's skin is hurting my eyes)

West of Chiang Dao (60km north of Chiang Mai)

This little gem is about 60km north of Chiang Mai west of R107

There's about a 2.5 meter drop off the bridge, the problem is your tires are loaded with clay on the way down to the bridge

CIMG1026.jpg

About 20 kilometers south of Phonsavan, Laos. I really wanted to give it a shot,
but after seeing a step through bike barely make it I wimped out...

Phil, we have actually lost a rider off that chiang dao area bridge before, he came in too hot, panicked when he saw the bridge, slammed on the brakes, lost his balance and both rider and bike fell off, it took me and lek about 20mins to get the bike out!!
great pictures by the way guys!!

-Would NOT want to fall off that bridge! its straight down for a long way, chances are the bike would land on you as well.

Digby, they are spectacular! looks like i'll be coming to do a tour over there with you for sure. Before i forget i've got people asking me about getting Vietnam entry permits for their bikes under 140cc, if you still have ways of doing this could you start a new thread about it ...dont put it in here or it will hijack the thread.

Is this the same one?

Another interesting crossing (in Laos) from midnight mapper - looks like he's dealt with this problem a lot!!

This one is just off Hwy 12 about 45km East of Phitsanulok.
Might have been OK on a scooter, but decided not to chance it on a fully loaded ER6.

Great great pichers Glennoi - thankyou.

Looks like Muzz must have hurt himself when he came off the bridge?

local motorcycle only road South to Muang Kong today(east of Chiang Dao)
10 weeks ago this bridge was just two concrete pillars. Fortunately it's finished , as the river is too deep to ride through now

5605993620_878352de0e.jpg

But the other bridge is not ready yet

Glennoi - we just watched the floating bridge failed crossing in my bar, you had many people in fits of laughter!

One of the funniest i've seen, thankyou
