Last December, the Myanmar officials in Tachilek were refusing to accept anything but 500 baht for the day pass - even though the legal fee is $10 USD (about 300 baht).

This week, the same officials state that the fee is 500 baht OR $10 USD when you enter the office.

Maybe something has come down from the higher powers about the minor rip-off.

I crossed early on Monday, June 4th. Just lucky, I guess.

The officials were all in spotless uniforms. Maybe someone honest was there looking over their shoulders.

Looks like there's a serious foreign exchange arbitrage opportunity there.
