For anyone wishing to use the 118, generally speaking from the large spirit house collection near the Coffee Terminal to the 2nd police checkpoint leaving Chiang Mai the construction works have been ongoing for a while now but have been further extended.

The road through is in a shocking state and only going to get worse as the rainy season approaches. I would suggest using the 1150 to the 1001 for the next 12 months at least, progress is very slow.

I traveled the 118 up and down last week and I agree with Bob that the road is very bad and will get much worst when the rain hits, especially by bike. On top of that they seem to break open more sections of the old road without starting to pave new sections......

Next time I will try Bob's suggestion of the 1150/1001, I have never done that road (y)

Nice route is the 109 then head south on the 107 ?
Adds about 1 hour onto your total trip.
But you will miss the roads works for sure.
