When people had trouble with expensive GPS units I used to joke that my cheap old Nuvi was 'disposeable'. Now I have to 'put my money where my mouth was'. In rush hour, at 90kph, on a three or four lane underpass it did a neat back flip over my left shoulder and made it's bid for freedom. I decided there wasn't much point in going back, let alone risking my life in the homeward focused traffic.
So, a warning to others and a lesson for me, the car oriented units mountings are not as secure as the more rugged ones, guess it's less serious if they just plop into the footwell.
Now it's back to Ebay and thinking of a failsafe for the next one such as a lanyard glued or screwed to it and looped round something.
 
The ZUMO I bought from Klaus has a handy provision, there is a little screw in the back that holds a metal wire, I believe this type of metal wire is used for fishing? This is the perfect failsafe if the bracket lets go.
