Buying a 5-8 year old model for a bit of casual fun riding 2 or 3 times a week.

The Ninja 650.

Pros. Cheap and easy to run. Cheap and easy service. Cheap and easy parts. Nice low end power. You don't need to ring the neck off it.

Cons. It's a twin cylinder. Vibrations. Engine heat. The thumping sound and fee. Also, it is a bit bland, it doesn't have a certain something.

The Benelli 600i

Pros. The sound, the feel of the inline four engine. The styling. It just has something more exotic than the Ninja 650.

Cons. Pretty lifeless below 7,000rpm. Chinese company and manufactuing. Poor low-end power.

Ducati Monster 795.

Pros. It's a Ducati.

Cons. It's a Ducati.

Looks, feels and sounds great.

Headache and high cost of service and parts.

A lot of the riding would be getting out and around town, then some mountain style roads.

Head says the Ninja 650. Though it is a bit bland.

Heart says the Benelli 600i. Even if it is a bit of a dog around town.

The Asean sold Monster 795 doesn't seem like a good buy.

Which would you choose?

Of those three I'd choose the Kawasaki and put a aftermarket muffler on which I found gave that particular engine a different character and a set of oversized bar end weights if vibrations were intrusive.

If you like inline four best test ride the CB650R. Fun bike if you could find one at right price.
