DRZ400 from Khon Kaen to Chiang mai
Route: 12, 201N, 2016, 2216, 203, 2113, 1268, 1241, 1083, 1026, 101, 1091, 1251, 1021, 120, 118, cnx
After purchasing a Suzuki DRZ 400 a few days ago In khon Kaen, I now had to get it back to Chiangmai.
Managed to work out some logistics with Mr. Gooding, so that I got a ride down to KK & could then ride back up.
Here it is all clean and pretty before the trek north west.
Stayed at the newly renovated KK hotel, 800 bht incl. b/fast, fantastic hotel for the money
The next morning started the delivery NW, firstly poking around to the SW of Loei
Also west of Loei, R 2016
Had planned on making Nan on the first day, but played around too long and ended up on the lonely 1268 in the dark and in the rain and clouds, wouldn't advise it, it was a big mistake. Viz with the DRZ light was about 3 meters and going was slow. Encountered a land-slide in the pitch black and several herds of white cows which looked like the road barrier, all very confusing on a road with no villages for 2 hours riding.
10.20pm managed to reach Na-Noi, about 70km south of Nan on the 1083/ 1026 junction. Stumbled on a GH on the 1026 there which for 300 bht was a bargain
The next morning, saw these guys loading up 2.5 meter wide iron roofing for the moped, was amusing to watch them loading it
Quick b/fast at hot bread in Nan, then onwards towards Chiangmai. Rain clouds from the depression were everywhere now
The rain had been on and off the whole way NW, then at Phayao the skies opened and it bucketed down, managed to find some shelter in a weighing station
So, a 2 day trip, probably 1,000km ridden on a bench DRZ seat. The bike was immense fun in the dry in the mountains, all in all very enjoyable.
