Colin already had a plan, north out of Chiang Mai on R 1001 then off on some dirt to explore some river crossings and old iron bridges.

Eddy had just flown in from Paris the night before but was chomping at the bit to come, James had only ridden the KTM up from Bangkok so was keen to explore the region.


This was actually the first bridge we came across, none of us wanted to chance it

Then we cam across this iron bridge on the trail

James on the big 200KG dry KTM - "ill give it a shot"!

Once he got up there it was much more unstable than anticipated

Then why not cross by river too

This is a beautiful flowing dirt trail that has rivers and bridges which brigs you out at Mae Ka Chan (R118/ R 120 junction). The next iron bridge and river crossing - Colin blasting through the river with ease.

Was a beautiful bright day, the old bridges were a great sight, very useful in rainy season for the locals

Eddy got a front flat, James had an electric pump with him which helped Eddy limp to Mae Ka Chan

Was a great day out. Lunch in the Black Canyon in Mae Ka Chan, then R 118 back to Chiang Mai.
