I am trying to source some better off-road shoes for my bike. Rear only at this point.

I called Piroj but he says 1 to 2 months for TKC 80s to arrive. I was hoping for a more aggressive knobby.

Spoke with Charlie at Pirelli in Bangkok. They did not have the Scorpion Rally in stock but had the MT-21 Rallycross in a 140/80/18. She will call me next year and tell me the price. :lol3 Already closed for the New Year but still answered the phone, actually called me back since no one answered when I first called.

Does anyone know if the Dunlop 908RR, Teraflex or any other aggressive knobby in the 140/150 x 18 size is available in Thailand?

Barcelona BMW can get Metzler Karoo's, but i think they only stock 17" rear - maybe they can order you an 18"?

I found this tire on VEE RUBBER, http://veerubberusa.com/motorcycle/view ... me=vrm211B.

VRM-211 B
Intermediate terrain application. Available in 140/80 - 18 for larger dual sport bike application

Any idea if it is available in Thailand?

Jim -

- unless you plan on doing 80% off road, that looks a very aggressive tire for here, to me it looks like a motocross tire, look at the distances between the nobs. With the 100HP you have, on the road you would destroy that in 1,000km (just my opinion).

Ordered some Pirelli MT-21 Ralleycross 140/80/18 from Charlie in Bangkok. Excellent service. Tire listed for 3,042 Baht and was discounted to 2,700 Baht. I bought the last 3 she had. Ordered on Tuesday afternoon and just received at the house in Ubon. An additional 220 Baht for shipping.

Lets see how they hold up.

I'm just installed the new MT21 on my 625sxc, 90/90-21 140/80-18, instead of the hard IRC. Planning to put them on my 990adv as well. Just wondering what may effect my rear rim or my riding since 140/80 tyre is not recommended by the factory. Should I try that?

I used a 18 x 140 tkc 80 rear on my 990 adv when that was all I could get.

What happens is that the tire is very square on the edges and feels horrible in the corners.

Had a Pirelli Scorpion Pro spooned on the rear of the KTM 990 ADV today ready for a Laos off-road trip.

Will report on its performance, has the look of a 70% off-road / 30% on-road tire

Is that a 140 Phil?

Here is a pic of the Rallycross I spooned on the first time. I ended up taking it back off so I could burn up the rest of my TKC 80 on the run up to Vientiane to meet up with Justin, Frank and Harri. Then I spooned it on again.

The tire did amazingly well, about little more than half tread left with a few long stretches of asphalt in there.

I have read on advrider that a big bike like the 990adventure will destroy the scorpion pro within a couple of hundred miles on tarmac, and they aren't supposed to last much longer on dirt. They are meant to give very good grip in mud though, a few people people using them on the front and using something more durable on the back. It will be interesting to know how they turn out.

It's 460KM to the Nan, Thailand/ Muan Nguen, Laos border on tarmac, so we shall see pretty soon if it's a problem. There were no Contintental TKC 80's or Pirelli MT21's 140 rear in Thailand, this was the only choice for off road.

Phil,

How did your Scorpion Pro hold up on your last trip to Laos? What was your impression between that tire and a TKC 80?

Was ok..actually great in the dirt ... still on there now, looks like it has about 1/2 the life of a continental TKC 80 ... the Pirelli Scorpoin Rally look an interesting choice
