Trying to find out more but we're told the Wat is 400 years old. It has the same styling as the older Wat's in Luang Prabang, Laos, it is beautiful.

Yes, it is a pity that so little is known about this beautiful old temple - here is a little bit of additional information: Wat Si Pho Chai, features an ancient ubosot similar to the one at Wat Chiang Thong in Luang Prabang. Constructed beautifully in a combination of Ayutthaya, Lan Xang, and Chinese styles, the ubosot houses Luangpho Phet and precious objects relating to Buddhism

Not far from this temple there is another temple worthwhile to visit as it has really nice murals inside and outside the ubosot depicting the life of Lord Buddha - this temple is known as Wat Pho Chai Na Phueng (coordinates N17.40882 E101.04868 on Rd 2113 from Dan Sai to Na Heao) which was built in a blend of Lanna and Lan Xang style.

There is a very nice publication available online from the Tourism Authority of Thailand or TAT describing six trips along the Mekong with lots of information on what to see and with coordinates where to find these things. It is called "The Mekong - Journeys along the River of Life" and can be downloaded here: http://tourismproduct.tourismthailand.org/uploads/book_file/1_en.pdf
