Wat Phan Lao remains were excavated in 2002/ 2003 by Chiang Mai's Department of Fine Arts. Artifacts discovered here such as the Stucco Motif's, which would have been at the head of the temple's staircase (in northern Thai dialect known as " Tou Ngao"), indicate that the remains date back to the 16th century AD.
