Just stumbled across this and thought it might interest riders on this page.

1.) Updated Law on Registering Vehicles (imported as parts and rebuilt in Thailand) 2013

A summary on this new law is that it prohibits the registration of private cars +7 pax, cars -7 pax , trucks and motorbikes, that have been imported in to the country as parts (not as a whole vehicle) and rebuilt.

However, on the news this morning I briefly heard that imports of (rebuilt) vehicles prior to this updated law can still be registered, as long as they meet all the necessary requirements and standards.

If anyone that's already in the pipeline or newly submitting for registration, can still (legally) register their bikes, then pls do update us, it'd be refreshing news indeed.

2.) The 2nd attachment (snap shot of a magazine page) has a statement by the head of traffic police "riding an unregistered big bike has an immediate fine up to 10k, with additional violations of law which can reach up to 20k, along with the bike being confiscated for further investigations."

He also warned that he has ordered his men to immediately check big bikes riding on the roads and inspect, confiscate and fine fake registered bikes (and unregistered bikes I assume), as lenience has been shown for long enough.
