Thailand could soon recognize a third gender category for the first time in the country's constitution.

"It is a human right if you were born a male or female and you want to have a sex change or lead a life of a different gender," said Kamnoon Sittisamarn, the spokesperson of Constitution Drafting Committee, which is working on a new draft of the country's constitution.
"People should have [that] freedom to change sex and they should be equally protected by the Constitution and the law and treated fairly."
Third gender means that an individual does not have to identify as either male or female, and gives their right to self-identify

COOl ! A Third World country with 3 genders. Nowhere else has this so this should put The Land of Smells up to a Second World country status( whatever that is ). If you want to avoid conscription get yer frock and heels on lads.

It seems that, like with soo many other things, legislation always lags behind. Considering the amount of people living in Thailand that are of the "third gender" it seems to me that this should have been done years ago.

Perhaps the rest of the world will take notice and finally learn to accept individuals that are Transexual and Transgender instead of making their lives miserable.

I mean...seriously...how unsecure in their own sexuality are those homophobic bigots to take the positions they do?

At least one aspect where Thailand actually does move forward...all is well in paradise.
