Quiet campsites in north Thailand

Most of the Thai campsites we've tried have been fairly busy.

We'd like to find something quiet, where we can set up a tent and make a campfire in some solitude.

We'll be doing the Mae Hong Son loop soon, and some day trips near Chiang Mai.

Any suggestions?

I'm years outta touch, but reach out to the local boy scouts. My son was a scout for several years in Chiang Mai, and they camped almost every month. We visited many quiet campsites

Saw some folks camped beside the bridge on a nice grassy area at Mueang Khong the other day. Presumably slipped a couple of baht to the restaurant owner. The spot we camped at a month or so back was a commercial site... 100 baht with your own tent, 150 for theirs... but you needed an off-road bike to get there. I've not heard of anyone getting into trouble for free camping... and know lots of folks who do. When you get to Chiang Mai, call in to Rider's Corner and have a chat to Deere about camping spots.
