Thai-Lao Insurance

That is good news - however, looking at the APA website, they only seem to have a presence in Vientiane. So, in case you have an accident, you may be in for a long waiting time for someone to show up at the accident site. Luckily, for a few hundred Baht you can buy insurance at the border from other insurance companies like AIG and Lao-Viet which have a presence all over the country.
