This bridge crossing was actually quite hard to do on a big bike. The long planks were not level and it was easier to drop off onto the cross planks. My SatNav took me this way, but I am sure there is a less scary way to enter Luang Prabang

N18 42.952 E103 26.419
6 bikes, 2 trips on a rope pulled ferry.
I think it was 60,000K each

2 years later and the bridge across the Nam Yuam, south of Mae Sariang still not fixed

Looks like it might be shallow enough for a truck to get through

Still no warning at the top, the 55 gallon drums are gone - highly dangerous

Last week on the trail from LPB to Phonsavan, think Pounce had already done this great track, beware of the lady in the red top and big chest, she ripped us for 100K each for this crossing, we thought about riding across but it was fast flowing and already 5.30 and we needed to press on.

How did you get a twin boat Bob?
That's the same lady that ferried us across in the same boat & yep, she stung us for 100,000kip too.

Maybe because of my high pitched girlie screams they decided that falangs are scared & strapped 2 boats together. Yes, you're welcome. :-)

Did you guys ask how much? I found that they always took what I offered, except when I forgot. The most I got hit was 50,000 kip. From then on I handed over a 5,000 or 10,000 and that was that.

I spent a while trying to negotiate with her and writing numbers in the sand of all things to make myself understood, but she was having none of it i did have a quick reckie at the GPS and there was no other way so she had us by the shorts so we just smiled and bent over !!!

Pounce, the twin boat just appeared, when we pulled up just two single boats could be seen and i thought this was going to be fun and hey presto the deluxe ferry showed up.

Have to say this one of the better tracks and the way we rode it was maybe the better option, from Luang Prabang the track was widened by the power pole guy's and was boring but as we got further in and passed them it was loads of fun, expecially if you like water crossings :
