Made a plan and managed to squeeze all the bikes in for bedtime, ready for the next morning

There's several fun options for loops out of Chiang Mai to Phrae & back, this one is long - 478 km, but fast roads so easily done in a day

Ban Tawai has some places that do that sort of stuff too. Not as interesting ride out there though :)

Headed south, about 25km SW (Den Chai) of Phrae on R 11 you start to hit the wood factories

It's right at the junction of R 11/ R 101, where you turn for Uttaradit ... looking west

Another reason to stop there is to look at the "antiques" around the back of the restaurant at Pui's (owner) beautiful teak house

From Phrae, R 103 north bound is a little dull for 10km or so, then turns into a great motorcycle road.

Properly kiln dried and dressed Grade "A" Burmese Teak wood in EU that slab would cost Baht 34,650 (no legs or work ). 0.1575 cubic meters at approx EURO 5,000 a cube. So go figure. Only thing is in EU it would be harder to find a single slab.

In Oz, same grade in 2" x 5" and wider x 7' longer spec cost A$8000/m3 - but slabs like that are rarer than rocking horse s**t.
Lovely species - easy to work and turns like butter on a lathe.
Am curious as to the size of the slab the boys saw.

If you take the south turn to Uttaradit, there is a shell garage within 500 metres.
Next to it we had a lovely noodle soup, included 2 wontons and 4 healthy sized slices of pork for 35 baht.

Along the 400 metre strip where the shell servo is there must be over 100 shops selling all sorts of wooden products - ranging from eggcups through dining room tables.
We picked these up for 170 baht.
