Got me a pair of new eyes so now I can do a bit of safe riding, starting small.
Probably the most significant site out here is Wat Phra That Doi Saket.
We will go and have a look at it.
The view back towards Chiang Mai.
Last year Buddha's head collapsed due to poor design and construction, which caused great consternation within the local community.
Public donations were solicited and funds eventually raised for a new design and replacement head.
Near this Reclining Buddha is an excellent and humble little coffee shop and basic 'restaurant'.
The water fall provides a soothing background.
The matriarch is this characterful former teacher.
The coffee is excellent and the meals inexpensive and delicious (and with golden utensils!!).
A ride up to the dome and you have this new 'Skywalk'.
And the nearby obligatory lottery sellers.
Inside the dome there is some very impressive artwork and Buddha's Footprint.
Near the Temple is a Mosque and associated restaurant.
And a Christian Church.
I like wooden Spirit Houses.
This 'Yellow Elder' tree was worth a stop.
As was this 'Royal Poinciana' tree aka 'Flame Tree'.
An ancient 'Kapok Tree'.
And the 'Sun Flowers' are blooming nice too.
This is actually an Eastern view of a local sunset.
And we even have a new 7-11 !
And another new Coffee Shop.
And this multi million baht Sino-Thai complex is under construction, employing hundreds of people and with Chinese Project Managers.
It is a 'Waste to Energy Power Plant' and they are currently calling for many specialized applicants.
They have security guards and it is not so easy to enter but ...........
I found this old Police Station.
And its nearby Residence.
With its statement of philosophy, referring to such human qualities as
"Preparation is Key"
'Holistic Development" and
"Self Improvement"
Near the Doi Saket Stadium and just behind our Yellow Coffee Truck are the remnants of a flourishing tobacco drying enterprise
from back in the 1970s.
There are about 20 brick kilns and they appear to be in quite good condition.
Sadly, there appears to be nothing on record about this enterprise. Well, that's what a resident elder told me.
The grounds now are beautiful and accommodate many birds (and guard dogs!)
The dear old lady told me this tree was about 100 years old.
Speaking of bird life, here are some locals.
No fish is too small.
Fishing and painting at Nong Bua Lakes.
On #118 at Doi Saket we have the excellent Isaan Kitchen which has really delicious beef steak.
But our well know 'Pizza Plus' has relocated to a more isolated area on the other side of #118.
However, all is not lost as this site will become a restaurant, bakery and coffee shop in the near future.
Can't wait!
