At one of the local golf course i spotted this old DKW that a caddie or someone there was using to commute on.

I figure it was something like 125-250cc a 2 stroke and somewhere around 1940's model?

Amazing that it runs well enough to use as a round town commuter.

Anyone got ideas of the model and engine size?

Loop, I am pretty sure it is pre WWII, after the war all front forks quickly changed to telescope types. Also the rigid rear frame and the hand shift arrangement are pointing to that pre war period. DKW produced a large range of bikes so it is not easy to give an indication of engine or type based on some pictures.
Would be a lovely piece to restore as most parts seem original, just not understand the petrol tank sitting so low?

^ i'm thinking the engine has been changed.Left side engine cover and right side kick start designs don't look of that period.
I agree the rolling chassis looks around WW11.

There was a DKW NZ 350 model then that looked the same but was a 350cc twin.
