Looks like there's a few of us trail riding tomorrow, meeting 10am at the roundabout (turning circle) on the road to Night Safari, the turn-off, off of R 121/ Canal Rd. Co-ords: N18.74625 E98.92634

Meeting point below:

From there, it's an abundance of choices, Alex is talking about the river trail to Samoeng, then Rocktower

THAT SUCKS. would love to go but heading to Rayong today. Maybe next time, have fun

Quite a good turn out with the hot season upon us and many away or having their bike fixed

Darren - KTM 350 EXC (if he could only keep one it would be the Husaberg 300 EXC 3 smoker)
Harry - Modified Kawa D-tracker with 13 x 49 gearing
Jan Marc - 1st time guest appearance on a standard Kawa KLX 250 (standard gearing on last man standing should be interesting)
Travis - KTM 450 SXF ( 2008 model its absolutely immaculate)
Alex - Yamaha WR 250 F (new valves and raring to go)
Phil - KTM 300 EXC 2-stroke (No electric start, it kicks pretty easy, keep blowing exhaust manifold o rings, a real mystery. New springs on the exhaust and still blows them)

Is that the SX in the classifieds ??

Looks pretty slick..

Alex the Indian scout of the Doi Suthep mountain & Ob Khan National Park had a new piece of single track he wanted to show us, so onwards and upwards.

Its just to the right/ east of the "Last Man Standing Trail" on the map below:

It was a bit slow going in the 36 deg. cent. heat, lots of leaves hiding the rutted terrain beneath, so we turned back down

So blistering hot and off to Last Man Standing we go - rutted, steep, rocks, roots, powder, its all there, if you want a sadistical day out, this is the place for you. Once you've done it, you won't argue. This is where the talented rider's shine, an easy place to quickly show your extreme enduro riding skills. Gearing is important, with stock gearing you will destroy a clutch, you will be feathering all the way up.

One of the few semi-horizontal rest points on LMS, Alex & Jan Marc having a chat, others off in a dust cloud in the distance

Overheating bikes (& people), Jan Marc wisely didn't want to destroy a clutch with his standard gearing, so a few of us went back down to look for some trails with some speed and airflow. Below should give you an idea of how nasty LMS trail is

South of R 1269 (southern side of the Samoeng loop Rd.), there are lots of fast flowing tracks, perfect for a day approaching 40 C

Some waypoints from the new stuff

Not much shade, all the leaves had fallen from the trees, but higher speed which was much much cooler, my bike no longer overheating

We managed to find some new steep single track that linked back north to R 1269, always fun finding new link ups, one of the best things for me in trail riding

Nasty thin bit with a huge drop off

It never looks steep !!!!!

Near the Samoeng viewpoint on R 1096 at the Samoeng end, there are several trails that descend towards samoend, we wanted to see which linked to samoeng

The one above didn't, Jan Marc knew of one that did, it's an excellent way down if you're on a dirt bike\

Be ready for the tree, its just too low to ride under

Fabulous noodle soup place you should try in Samoeng town - "Emm's Noodle soup restaurant". Lean pork in the soup, one of the best i've ever had. Co-ords:

In the back arcade behind the main street, well worth a try.

Wanted to show JM the old Japanese train on the way home, looks like its got too popular and no longer accessible

Will find out where the rest of the chaps ended up

JUST 101DEGREES TODAY, AND 158MCG AIR POLLUTION, SO WHAT BETTER WAY TO START THE DAY than a ride up Last Man Standing.
Harry and I had lunch at the Hmong village, then trucked down turtle trail and turned down the mountain, onto that concrete tracks trail, then explored some sidetracks until we found one that took us eventually to some Wat road, so we had a drink and hit some rocky loose singletrack on the way home

Many many thanks for this great Enduro day. This was fantastic. Thanks for the help, Alax + Darren. I love this shit indeed. The (german) story with a few pics you´ll find in my facebook accounthttps://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.740200642671424.1073741855.280606101964216&type=1Thanks Boys, what coms next?

Wow good job for even trying to go up LMS in March with this heat!

Why did you guys not go for the river trail? Would have been much fresher and less torture on the bikes.

That trail east of LMS Alex mentioned is where I got stuck two years ago with USA Alex and couldn't find the trail back down (and no gps at the time). We almost linked up to the road, but the last 2-300 meters were impassable (similar to LMS, last few hundred meters are in the forest, slippery hard pack with no traction and VERY steep). I think the story is somewhere on here, will try to find it.

EDIT: there we go, is this the trail you wanted to do Alex?

Max, no, I know that trail and where it comes out, never done it on a bike though.
We were on a trail east of LMS first,to hook up lower down, Harry and I looked for a trail onto LMS from the west in the afternoon

From the west I've done this one with Darren and Ton once (black stroke):
