KTM 250 EXC-F
I'm currently working in Malaysia and drove past a KTM dealer a couple of days ago. I intend to go in there and find out the cost of a 350 exc-f. IF and thats a big IF they are reasonably priced with registration, whats the routine with keeping it in Thailand.

I have had a look online and seem to be able to do this and take it for a visa run, but how long can I keep it in Thailand for? Are there any restrictions on how many runs and how long it needs to stay out the country for?

Thanks in advance.

You can currently do the foreign bike , Thai temporary import renewal perpetually, every 6 months and a 2,000 bht fine. Lots of info in the links below:

HI Phil,

Do you have any first hand info if you go over the 6 months? Will they only fine you the 2,000 baht or will they try to extort the Customs Excess Value from you? They have mine at nearly 3 Million Baht!

39,500 Malysian Ringets for a registered and plated new 350 exc-f. Need to do some serious thinking now.

So about 395,000 Baht then, how much does a registered and plated one cost in Thailand?

Yep - Thai Customs created a huge drama in front of him, he was fined a small amount, no where near the amount on the TIP & told never to bring the bike back into Thailand. He sold it in Laos.

I'm not sure if you can get one plated and registered in Thailand, which is one of the reasons I was looking here. JC Speedshop have 350 XC-F for 380,000 and a 350 EXC-F Six days model for 385,000 baht, but neither will be registered.

My thinking was buy one here which is registered, plated and road legal, then a short ride from work over the border and get the paperwork done and truck it back to Pattaya. Then I will have legally plated bike with all the correct documentation. Then I can ride it over to Cambodia or even bring it back to work to re-new the visa for it.

Just an idea at the moment......

Why not buy it in the U.S and have it sent here in parts?

You mean on a US plated bike? Maybe that is doable, Phil - but I have no idea on all the buying/stripping/shipping organisation and paperwork. Nae(?) next door to you does this sort of thing from Japan/Asia, I think - but from US?

EDIT: And, with the extra shipping costs, would the (possibly cheaper) US price be that much better for this to work out cheaper/easier than just buying in Malaysia and riding it back? Also, unlike from ASEAN countries, you'd have to still pay some tax on bike part imports from US, I think.

[Can the WR250F be plated in the US? If so, and it could be organised, buying a crate load of later spec (has the bike changed much since the 2007 ally frame?) 2nd hand WRs and breaking them down to parts (how far you'd have to go, I don't know - and is parts tax actually less than whole bike tax from US?) then importing might work out well - if there were a few interested people with the right contacts and know-how... EDIT: Or maybe not from the US but an Asian country where they plate them??? But this game has been going on for ages here, I gather...]

I'll email the dealer and let you know if he replies. I know a shop in Pattaya that can import as well, however none are registrable.

Ta. Iirc, JC Speedshop said 360k for the Freeride on a thread here a while back - and about 50-75k to plate, I think. Looking at UK KTM prices, the Freeride should be some less than the excf 350 -if they can get it.

I think the shop in Kota Bharu said they get their bikes from either Penang or Singapore. Looking on KTM Malaysia website the 350 freeride is listed.

I got this reply today,
Hello there,

Sorry for late responded your email.

KTM 350 EXC-F price actually is RM 50,537.39 and already to register, no need to add any part. NOT RM39,500 (Sorry for this mistake)

That mistake helped make my mind up to a NO.........
