The Laos Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism is optimistic to attract 5 million tourists during "Vist Laos Year 2018"
The Lao government believes that it will be able to meet the target of the 2018 Laos Tourism Year to attract 5 million foreign tourists which would generate over $ 900 million in revenue. However, according to the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, foreign visitors to Laos totaled 3,868,831 in 2017, down 8.3 percent compared to 2016 so they have their work cut out for them.
The ASEAN Tourism Research Association (ATRA) reported that tourism revenues in Laos were still below the average rate among ASEAN member countries, which accounted for 12 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), while tourism revenue in Laos was only 7 percent. Therefore, they expect that it will not be easy to get 5 million foreign tourists in 2018.
The ASEAN Tourism Research Association noted that the Lao government will need to take full-scale measures to develop and improve the quality of tourism in Laos. Providing an international standard with focus on management, entertainment and services to engage in business.
