1989-1990 KMX 200 passed Thai DMV tests February 5, 2026, so is road legal, insured and ready.

This is a rare Kawasaki, produced for only two years (1989-1990) and one of only two known to be in Thailand. Originally it was in Japan, then imported by the Red Baron motorcycle shop in Bangkok. Red Baron secured the Thai “Green Book” (title) for it (Thai year shown as 2538), then sold it to a passing Canadian tourist who used it for less than a month to tour Thailand. I bought it from him and have legally owned and used it for 22 years. VIN # and Motor # match what is shown in the Green Book secured by Red Baron, but do not match each other.

Specifications for the KMX 200 can be found here: Kawasaki KMX 200 (1989-90) technical specifications

It has unknown kilometers and both k/h/rpm and speedo/odometer need rebuild/restoration. Ignition and gas tank keys working, with spare set. Small tool kit with some spares is mounted on the back. Kilometers listed as 50,000 is a guess - had to put some # in the FB's post.

I used it as a dirt bike, then it became more of a road bike. The moniker of “Cult Bike” was attached to it after a group of local (mostly based in the "Golden Triangle") Internet forum cult-like naysayers posted and opined I could not take it out of country to places like Malaysia and Cambodia, which I eventually did. I also used it for product testing for accessories like tank bags and handlebar grips. It gathered fame to the point of being on the cover of Kawasaki’s ACCELERATE magazine, in published motorcycle magazines (MOTORCYCLE USA and MOTORCYCLE CONSUMER NEWS, both RIP), and in the published coffee table book DOWN AND OUT, In Patagonia, Kamchatka And Timbuktu (AMAZON, paperback and Kindle editions).

For a free read of how it, and I, performed on an expedition from Chiang Mai, Thailand to Cambodia and return, a story titled “No Stranger To Danger” can be found here: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/gregfrazier/news/2007-03-15.php

This is a 45 day listing and will be edited/removed when the Kawasaki is sold or chosen to be used on another planned expedition into Myanmar. Much of the fun in owning this rare motorcycle has been locating parts since it was not a Thailand import. Parts have been used from Yamaha, Kawasaki (Philippines), and Honda. One "watcher" who restored his KMX200 says all parts are still available from Kawasaki Japan. Potential owners should be wrench ready and minor motorheads on older two-stroke machines – it has a new battery and starts/stops, but often either becomes an adventure. I am letting it move on because my aged and blown right knee no longer allows me kick-start any motorcycle.

Thank you Ride Asia for the fun of seeing the infamous "Cult Bike" on a new adventure.

The Cult Bike is no longer available through this post in Classified - For Sale.. The Cult Bike has moved on to another plain.

Tried to delete the thread, but seemingly some cyber bug/dragon loves it so much is stays in the Cyber RA World, now as a ghost post.

Watch for reportage in the wild Southeast Asian Skies.
