Honda CRF250L Cam Chain Tensioner Issues

It look's like the CRFL/M suffers from the same automatic cam chain tensioner issues i had three times with my old KLX. If yours is making the same low down knocking noise when at idle as mine is get it booked in quick before it becomes a more serious issue.


Short video describing the fault, as yet HOnda have not made a recall on this but if you bike is still under warranty they should do it for free.


 
The CRF/CBR Engine has the same type of tensioner then the XR400 and that for many years .
I don't think that Honda will rethink that design now .

The problem is that the tension is only hold by a tiny watchmaker spring .
About 5x0.3 mm and a half m long .
If the spring break , the spindel screw is lose and can turn back .

Easy to fix with a manual tensioner , they can be ordered online or modify the original tensioner to manual .
That just need a Aluminium plug , a M8x80 bolt and 2 nuts.
