CRF450R - Machines - Team HRC Dakar

not checked the video yet, but I suspect it will be seriously expensive :hmm

The Katsumi rally bike is prepared for Dakar use will rolling paper feed GPS etc, but surely they must see a market for a sensibly priced 400 - 450 without all the Dakar bell's and whistles, Suzuki are trying hard to get a foot in the market in LOS, even the ageing DRZ would be on my shopping list if it became available.

I'm sure it'll happen sometime. might have to make do with the CRF 250 replacement (CRF 300 !?) for a few years though :|

Soo nice! I think 450cc is the perfect size..not limited on the road
,and not too heavy off road/single tracks/river crossings etc, with plenty of power .
Anithing 'bigger' ,off road is just difficult to handle

I do not intend to insult anyone...but I prefer this baby:

Cyril Despres is riding it in the 2015 "Paris Dakar" (or what has become of it) to victory...ohh yeah baby...go kick ktm butt:lol

Agreed but of the likely models to show up in LOS Honda would be favourite.

The market is wide open for such a machine so it's who dares wins !

Both Awsome bikes Yam and the Honda ..... But where would you ride them ???

But even when you look in the west, theres a pretty wide hole in the market... People are still buying and speaking positively about the humble DRZ, which is what 12 years out of date now. The super moto crowd are converting 400 and 500 size off roaders, or riding race designed bikes with the maintenance issues.

I really dont see what there isnt a lght, mid point performance and service needs, machine sold.. The only one I can think of is the wr450.. Put a bigger tank on the RMZ, detune the CRF450 a touch with more oil in its sump and kibblewhite type valves.. There should be something more accessible than the KTM 690SMCR.

They are just modified CRF450R and YZF450 (for race rallies). If you want the same bike with less maintenance get a CRF450X / WR450. Then add a big gas tank and you have the same bikes. I don't see where this "gap" is?

All they have done is add an (ugly) windshield for rally purpose.

As for SM bikes, get a Husky SMR, maintenance is far less than a CRF-R/YZF... and also I know one that is for sale ;)

I can agree with the first part of your statement MastaMax...however, they are so strongly modified that your second statement is off...way off

Try suspension, fork, wheels, engine tuning, frame...then maybe a bigger tank but surely 2 side-tanks, integrated GPS and rolling map. Even without these last 3 and only a bigger tank you'd still be far from the off-road handling of the rally version if you do not look at in the least changing your forks and suspensions.

Of course those are factory bikes, but they are as different as a stock F bike is to a factory bike you see in a AMA SX race.

My point was I don't see any gap in the models, if you get a 450 enduro with a big tank you basically have a rally-able bike, not saying a "factory" rally bike.

Edit: here is a good example, a stock crf450x with big tank and better head light :

Mine was more for general use / scratching.. Tho I had forgotten about the CRF450X.
