Hi all, over the past 10 years or so I've made the Pattaya - Chiang Mai - Pattaya road trip many times, but I usually take a week to do it and skirt places like Burma or Laos to get there! Now I want/need to do it without taking in the sights..... straight run, fast as poss, in one hit (I'll be on one of the best superbikes of the 90's, a Yam XJR1200). So a question to all you blat merchants..... what's the fastest route to Pattaya, without touching Bangkok? I'm looking at Hway 1 & 32 down to just past Ang Thong, then the 329, onto the 33 to Prachin, down the 319, 304 and 331. Recommended?
Cheers.

That is a fast route I have done it in 10 hours with stops for food , fuel, piss but next 2 days i needed lots of TLC, massage and hot sauna to get rid of thge aches
I reccomend it even if you stop at Nakon sawan for the night

I have done it in the car several times & my eyes are popping out of my head by the time I reach Den Chai.

But on a bike... I guess it would be more than my eyes cracking up.

Take it in 2 bites as MM says, be kind to yourself ;)

Pattaya to Chiang Mai is about a nine hour ride on my Africa Twin. Have done it many times. The route you outlined
is not quite right. To avoid most of Bangkok, head straight down 1 which turns into 32, until you pass Don Muang airport.
Then cut over on the 304 to Chachoengsao. Then south on the 315 to the 331, which heads you into Pattaya.

Thanks for the input guys.

Jerry, Ally, I am planning a much nicer sedate ride back (on a '91 FXRS Harley) and stopping at my fave place the Homeland Resort in Petchabun (got a swimming pool and great clean nice rooms @ 500 baht) before doing the 12 & then 11 up past Den Chai etc. But for the downward route it's gonna be a straight blat..... estimating about 9 to 10 hours. Used to do Pattaya - Udon in just over 5 so what's a few more hours? :| :D

Rob, thanks for that..... I presume the turn off the 32 onto the 304 Chachoengsao is well signposted and painless? Just don't wanna get snarled up in Bkk..... I know what those cops are like! Chiang Mai's seat guru mentioned you yesterday..... I took my AT seat in for a tart up and he showed me a copy of the one he made for you hanging up on show..... I recognised it as I was holding a print-out of your seat in my hand anyway!!

Cheers all.

Just for fun, I put into the gps "Pattaya to Chiang Mai quickest way".

Nice one Phil..... unfortunately "it" thinks you're a car and takes you places a bike cannot go... However, a bike could still use Kanchanaphisek and Bangna-Trat road..... I just don't want to do any piddling around in Bangkok so I think I'll take Rob's suggestion and skirt off onto the 304 by Nonthaburi and down the 315. Should've gone yesterday but the overnight rain persuaded me to check out the Thai Met Depts website...... big mistake! Forecast for 3 days of severe thunderstorms and hail (!!) so I cancelled a journey I could easily have made..... have to leave it till next week now..... looking forward to trundling up again on a tasty FXRS!

Jim - you have to change the GPS's routing settings to avoid all toll roads. The GPS's default settings are for cars and the default routing setup will include toll roads in its routing calculations.

^ Hi Jim. We're not allowed to ride on certain stretches of elevated highways, expressways, toll roads etc. It's why I try to avoid Bkk like the plague..... unless you are real familiar with the city you can easily find yourself on the wrong road and a lot of the cops there are very unforgiving.

What are you riding Jim, and where are you based?

Pattaya to Chiang Mai is about a nine hour ride on my Africa Twin. Have done it many times. The route you outlined
is not quite right. To avoid most of Bangkok, head straight down 1 which turns into 32, until you pass Don Muang airport.
Then cut over on the 304 to Chachoengsao. Then south on the 315 to the 331, which heads you into Pattaya.

Took your advice but stuffed it up at the last, so added another 150km and went on to Laem Mae Phim, down by Klaeng!

The Yam performed superbly all the way, she absolutely loved the ride down as far as just south of Nakhon Sawan, then we had to slow down a bit coz of all the trucks! But took her off the clock from Lampang to around Kamphaeng Phet..... the clock stops at 180 and there was more..... loads more..... on the ol' twisty grip!

Found the 304 quite easily..... you have to keep your eyes peeled just past Don Muang and keep over to the left but it was easy enough..... signposted for Min Buri first, then Chachoengsao.... easy enough. Like I say I stuffed it at Chachoengsao by taking the 314 signposted Chon Buri instead of ignoring that and looking for the 315...... well, Pattaya's Chon Buri, aint it? Bad move...... the road surface was shite and it was nose to tail trucks, but I kept on, thinking I'd get into Chonburi and then it's only a quick blat down the old H'way 3...... then I came across the 344 signposted for Klaeng and thought "well the Yam has to go there (to the new owner) anyway, and that's where my new machine is waiting..... why not get straight on down there this afternoon and do the swap today?" So I did!

Got into Klaeng and from there it's just along the coast to Laem Mae Phim...... pulled up at my buddy's bar at 18:01 with a trip meter reading 1010km...... not too shabby as I left Chiang Mai at 08:00!

And this is what it was all for..... bye bye Yam XJR1200, hello Harley FXRS 1340!

And that was probably the last Iron Butt Blat I ever do. :RE

Other suggestions are pretty good. I think Black Cats route is quicker I did CM to Pattaya in 11 hours on the Ducati such as prevents but it certainly is not as picturesque as other recommendations.

perhaps we should instigate an annual CM to Prattaya TT ( time trial race ) see who is quickest , winner gets 10 free shortimes on soi 6 or a blow job from Phil .

ime on the plane or getting one of these 17 year old psychos on my bike does the bet still stand

Nice, ride an FXR at home. Get rid of the forwards and get some slightly longer good shocks and you'll surprise a lot of Harley sceptics. (Piss takers)
Tim.
