As Midnitemapper indicated on his own website Bridges of the Mekong river Laos | Laos GPS Map the construction of the Paklay bridge, also known as the Nasak Khokhaodo Mekong Bridge, has now finally started. The Lao News Agency reported on 12 July 2010 that a contract with the Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Co., Limited from China had been signed for the construction of the 370 meter long and 12 meter wide steel truss bridge superstructure.

At that time it was indicated that the bridge would be completed in 2013 with funds provided by the Government of the Netherlands (2.3 million Euro in the form of a grant) and 2.1 million Euro as being the input from the Government of Lao PDR.

However in October 2012 Laos indicated that they had started the construction of the bridge - source: http://www.laopdr.gov.la/ePortal/new...etail_FromHome:

Xayabury bridge construction gets 17% built

(KPL) Construction of a bridge between Parklai District, Xayabury Province and Sanakham District, Vientiane Province is now 17% complete after construction began in 2011. Mr Bouavieng Champaphanh, Head of the Xayabury Bridge Construction Project said that the construction was delayed when contactors took over five months to import construction materials. "Construction of the bridge will cost over 189 billion kip, of which 28.12 billion kip comes as a contribution of the Government of Holland and 160 billion kip from the Lao government,"said Mr Bouavieng.

The bridge, at 365m long and 11m wide, spans Nasak Village in Xayabury and Kokkhaodor village in Vientiane Province. The bridge will be equipped with sidewalks, drainage, streetlights and traffic signs. Construction is expected to be complete this year. The bridge is part of the government's plan to link Xayabury Province with Vientiane Province.
