Lone Rider
Blokes Who Can
Another trip to Laos - first part with family from The Netherlands and the last part with friends from Vietnam. Just a few pictures:
Boten Border Crossing
Location of the future Boten Railway Station
Enjoying the sunset with cocktails at the "Jumbo on the Mekong Guesthouse" (coordinates N19.91327 E102.16684) in Luang Prabang
View of road 4C from the Viewpoint
The changing landscape in Vientiane although very little work seemed to be ongoing
Panoramic picture of the Nam Theun 1 hydrpower project for which the construction has restarted after the Malaysian contractor abandoned the project
The new cement factory built a t the junction of road 8 with road 5645at Ban Khounngeun
The view over the stone forest along road 8ak
The view towards Konglor Cave
On the road to the Konglor Cave
My regular place to stay the night in that area - the Sai Nam Hai Resort (coordinates N18.18072 E104.54558) - very friendly owners, good food and cold beers
Early morning view towards the Sai Nam Hai resort
A new resort under construction along the Nam Theun at Ban Thabak
Road 1E from Lak Xao to Gnommalath is now completely paved - picture of the new road and a small part of the old road on the left side and a picture from 2011 of the old road during the dry season
The Nam Theun 2 reservoir
Some not so clever parking in Savannakhet
Overnight at the Villa Thakhaek (coordinates N17.39756 E104.82586) in Thakhaek
Tham Nang Aen along Rd. 12 (coordinates N17.44389 E104.94782) - now under private management with horrible lighting and expensive entry fee (30,000 Kip per person)
The Buddha Cave or Tham Pha Fa (coordinates N17.47659 E104.85173) which now can be reached via a concrete walkway. This cave is managed by th local community with support by the Tourism Department of Khammouane - entry fee 5,000 Kip per person.
The old and the new stairs to enter the cave - the old stairs are now gone to make way for boat tides into the lower cave and river
and a trip to the Blue Lake or Khoung Kong Leng lake (coordinates N17.64288 E104.81343). The access road is now all graded with the exception of a 200 meter stretch and it looks like that the road will be paved in the near future.
and at the end a sunset in Thakhaek on the Mekong
