ROYAL ENFIELD CLASSIC
Friday 13th October

Between rain showers I have been chugging around the Doi Saket area on my Royal Enfield,
exploring the minor roads and laneways.

A couple of days ago I stumbled upon this 'Sacred Gold Temple' aka 'Suwan Khiri Mongkol Temple' in Luang Nuea.

It is just off #3044 at 18.912, 99.146.

There are about 60 novices accommodated there and they are heavily into recycling and sustainability (as I will show in Part 2)

This was just a brief visit and I will share much more tomorrow.
Suffice to say that this is a very interesting Temple.

On the way home I called into my favourite Pad Thai restaurant, which also has superb coffee.
It is 'PadThai@DoiSaket', just off #118 (heading north).

So I returned to the Temple for a closer look.

They grind their own coffee.
I shall try to buy a packet when I next go back.

This bicycle is used to boost the heat in the 'furnace'.
They recycle plastic bottle and make pavers from them.

The frame for the pavers.

I have never seen this gesture before, nor have Thai friends I have shown it to.
Might be a Burmese icon.
Any ideas?

They make their own trimmings.

The many Novices have their dormitory.

Late morning snack.

IMG_20231012_112753.jpg

There are many Burmese style musical instruments there.

This sounds wonderful!

There's more to see there, so I will return (and hopefully buy some coffee).

Great story. Thanks.
Not sure I'd be over keen on a bag of ground coffee out of that setup. We grind to order with coffee... it goes bitter far too fast in this environment, when pre-ground.

You certainly dont need to travel very far to find interesting places.
