I am looking to buy a good Contour camera, I will also consider other makes but prefer the cylindrical shaped cameras for the purpose I have in mind. Acceptable alternatives depend if Picatinny rail mounts are available for them.

I have a Contour with built in GPS which I hardly use and am planning to sell. If you want to try it out (look also at Contour GPS Review - YouTube for a review and what the camera can do) you can borrow it and if it does the tricks you want it to do than you can buy it.

I run my GoPro on my work gun in a Home | Strikemark "CANTILEVER GOPRO PICATINNY MOUNT"
But they also make for the Contour cams.
I agree that the Contour is better fitted for this purpose, but I already have two GoPros, so didn't want to get a Contour.
