Went for a visa run to Mae Sai / Tachileik yesterday and thought Id share a few pics of my trip.
I got off really late from Chiang Mai, around 11.00 after getting my new top box at BMW fitted.
On the way north towards Chiang Rai, I ran into slow traffic cause by this:
A car had torpedoed a truck.
After that it was smooth riding, passed 3 guys on sportsbikes later on but never saw them again.
I did my visa thing and visited the bike accessories shops in Tachileik and got a new mesh jacket for 1400 Baht.
On the return trip I wanted to take a different route, so I made a right turn after Mae Sai and headed up towards Doi Tung, then Doi Mae Salong, Fang and then my GPS weared me back on the 118 since it thought it was the best route home. I didnt object, since it was already dark at that point.
Pics:
View from up on Doi Tung area
Plenty of landslides on the way home as well.
After that it got dark and I saw this temple on the right hand side and thought Id try to take some night time shots of it.
Passed through hell on the way back as well
Came up on a place where a part of the road was gone doe to erosion, I guess
Then this place where loads of large boulders had fallen onto the road.
In the end I was back in Chiang Mai around 2300, so 11 hours of effective riding, great day.
