News is circulating that Tony Chichester of Nan is seriously ill.

Many of us here on RideAsia have had the pleasure of meeting Tony,
spending some time with him and sampling his wonderful food.

Tony is a gem of a person.

I have started this thread hoping that those who know Tony may want
to add a few words of encouragement which may be of assistance and comfort to him
and his wife and his family.

Tony is heavily medicated but was able to enjoy the company of friendly visitors today.

Let me be the first here to say 'Tony, you are a special guy and I'm just one of many
who are thinking of you at this time and hoping the news improves as the days go by'. "

Tony is a great, friendly helpful guy who I have had the pleasure of knowing for a few years now, I too hope to hear positive news about this

For me Tony's Place is my home away from home while in Nan and I have spent and hope to spend quite a few more evenings with Tony and friends sitting in the tiny corner enjoying a cold one as well as the very nice food prepared by Wan.

I first went to Tony's on my first trip to Nan 3 1/2 years ago.
Always enjoy his food and company.

Hang in there mate.

A fine gentleman and host who delivers top notch food.
Hope you get well soon bud.

I'm going to see Tony tomorrow and will read these messages to him.
If anyone else would like to add any more I'll read them to him also.

Well wishes from 1/2 a world away

Tell "High Chef Tony" that I'm sending he and Wan
well wishes and a speedy recovery
from 1/2 a world away,
in the cold Rocky Mountains
of the USA.

I to would like to send my best wishes, and heart felt thanks for the fantastic meals and conversations, to Tony and Wan from north west Canada.

Best Wishes!

Yeah, 2W,
Send him my best regards - we only really met in the last 6 months on 3-4 occasions, but a star ... and from my homeland too.
Always ready to welcome you & chat.
Russ.

An update for those above and others interested.

I shared maybe 30 minutes with Tony yesterday and had a general chat and even a few laughs, telling him that he's received quite a few
messages from his Ride Asia friends. I asked if he could read the messages if I opened the laptop. He said he could read them.
However, rapid fatigue set in and Khun Wan took him off to sleep.

Later I saw him happily ensconced in the smoking section chatting with Marcus, Sean, Oddvar and friend.
I decided not to ingest the cigarette smoke, so sat in the main section and wrote all of his messages out on a few cards,
thinking I'd hand them to him this morning before I departed.

A bit after 9 this morning Gary D and I were at the restaurant but Khun Wan said Tony was still sleeping.
He'd had a bad night. All of this, of course, is a very challenging time for Khun Wan.

So I explained the background of the messages to Khun Wan and she said she'd read them to Tony today when he awoke.

Gary rode on to Laos and I returned to Doi Saket.

Tony told me that a couple of specialist Doctors would assess his condition on Saturday and decisions would be made after that.
However I can confirm that, due to his medication, Tony is now a bit confused about some things.

I imagine Bob will have regular contact with K Wan and will be able to keep us posted.

Took & I spent a while chatting with Wan today and when Tony woke at 2 for his morphine we spent a short time with him at recidivists corner whilst Tony had a cigarette.

Indeed Wan needs all the support she can get :)

Ally

Thanks to all for your support at this time, if you can find the time to stop by and visit him it would be most appreciated.

It's really nice seeing everyone come to Nan, Tony can use the interaction, and of course its nice if the restaurant stays busy. :DD

Pun and me would like to wish Tony, Wan, family and friends strength, courage and love in the upcoming period.

Just to update people, Tony's parents go back home tomorrow so please feel free to call by and chat with him, he's in good form but still heavily medicated but would be pleased of visitors.

I have just been informed that sadly our dear friend Tony has passed away overnight, i will post funeral information as and when I have it for those who want to attend.

RIP Tony a true character

Damn.

Rest in Peace, Tony.

Rest in Peace Tony. My thoughts are with Wan and all the friends of Tony's place who have lost a great friend.

Such a sad and early loss .. From myself and Nongnoo, condolences to Wan and all of Tony's family and friends .. Keep riding with a smile Tony

Our condolences go out to Khun Wan, family and friends, Rest in Peace Tony.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

RIP Tony mate. I am very pleased to have been able to see you in Nan a couple of days ago and know that the prayers and good words given to me for you by the monks at Prathat Cee Kang Nan, will help you on your journey. Love and strength to your Areewan.

Gary and Lukkana

I managed to see Tony just before he passed away and have shared prayers with local Nan monks for him and his journey.
