beautiful ride on 12. overnighted in chum phae. next morning to korat. passed a sugar mill. looking back wish i had drove in to see if i cold have gotten a tour. a couple nights in korat.

How did you find Chum Phae, my partner is from round there. Did you find anything to explore in the local area? I am looking forward to doing some riding round there in the future

There are several ways of getting there from Petchabun. One is just head west along highway 12 to Khao Kho and at the junction of Highway 12 and Rd. 2196 head south along the 2196 and you will pass by the Khao Kho Museum of Weapons and the Memorial while, if you keep heading south, you will reach Rd 2258, from here head west a bit and then the palace it just a bit south of Rd. 2258 at N16.55236 E100.97560

The other way to get there is to head south from Petchabun till you reach the junction of Rd 201 and Rd. 2258 and from there head west till the junction of Rd. 2258 and Rd. 2196.

To get to the Communist Political School site and the weird Wat/Communist memorial head west from Petchabun on Highway 12 till you reach the junction of Highway 12 and Rd. 2372, head north along Rd. 2372 till you reach the junction of Rd. 2372 and 2331 and from here head west along Rd. 2331 to Phu Tap Boek (Phu-Thap-Boek and onwards to the former Communist school, Flag Pole Cliff and Lan Hin Taek/Poem and the weird temple at: N17.03400 E100.91530 and it is called Sam Saeng Tham or the Three Damma Lights.

By the way, if you go on a weekend or on national holidays the place will be overrun by Bangkokians - during weekdays the place is normally deserted but then a lot of the local guesthouses will be closed.
