Starter rebuild kit for KTM 2-strokes

It seems the afterthought electric start on the KTM 300 EXC- "E" gives every owner a problem. Matt has taken the starter motor, battery and starter wiring loom off his KTM 300 EXC-E completely!



LUFC has found a reasonably priced rebuild kit for the starter motor that might be useful for some.

Everyone I know with a KTM300 2T has problems with the starter motor. It's a poor design and will keep failing and failing. I serviced mine (and yours) numerous times and they tend to work for a while and then fail just when you need them. As you say, I took mine off, along with the battery and all associated wiring - saved a couple of kilos and I don't even think about it now. The bikes start so easily, first kick 95% of the time.

I was going to buy the rebuild kit from Slavens - they have a pretty good instructional video if you are thinking of doing it yourself (looks like the same kit);

Looks the same kit, I agree it kicks so easy i don't even think about the electric start any more
