PTT to Expand Further in Laos Market

PTT Public Company Limited, one of Thailand’s largest fuel distributors, says it has plans for further expansion of PTT Lao in Laos. After entering the Lao market six years ago, the company has had good success, and plans to expand the number of its petrol stations in Laos from 45 to 100 by 2022.

The company’s expansion is in line with the growing number of vehicles registered throughout the nation, which has caused rapid growth in fuel consumption. PTT strives to provide the highest quality fuel and the best service, with expansion of petrol stations based on direct investment by the Thai company as well as offering franchise agreements to local partners. A PTT petrol station franchise costs between 15 million Thai baht and 35 million Thai baht. There are three types of PTT stations that investors may choose from, including platinum, standard, and complex. Platinum is the top model, which includes facilities such as retail fuel distribution services, convenience stores, restaurants, and bank service units.

I like PTT, although in Thailand I prefer Bangjak these days. Whenever I'm in Laos though, I seek out PTT stations as they are by far the largest, most popular, cleanest and useful petrol/gas stations in the country. Petro Vietnam and the Lao service stations don't even come close. Not that I care much for 7-11, but I wonder whether PTT Laos will consider bringing 7-11 stores into the Lao market? So far one can find only Jiffy. In Myanmar, I noticed 7-11 is coming to a PTT station currently under construction there (between Thaton and Bilin along the highway between Yangon and Mawlamyine). While Lao and Cambodian PTT stations look like carbon copies of their Thai counterparts with stores like Jiffy, Cafe Amazon and even Black Canyon, in Myanmar they are calling it "PTT City" though unlike Laos and Cambodia they will have 7-11 stores.
