My NUVI 500 didnt last very long on the battery so I eventually found a replacement battery for it- not the official one.
I put it in and a message says INVALID BATTERY and the unit shuts down
Any idea how I can rectify this bull sh**?

Can you check the voltage on both batteries with a voltmeter? Sounds as though its sensing the wrong voltage.

No- same voltage- theres a chip somewhere that identifies the Garmin battery

I bought a spare battery for my Nuvi 500 from China on E Bay as the original didn`t last too long, roughly about 6-7 hours on 20-30% brightness.

They both last about the same time and it`s a matter of swapping them over when the need be.

I would say the unit is identifying it for a reason, ie it's not compatible. Just because the voltage is the same it might not be receiving the correct current. Try a different battery, or get the proper oem item.

Yes, the Nuvi's seems to be quite particular about the type of battery is accepts. For the Nuvi 500/550 you need to have the Lithium-Ion PDA-262LI which has a voltage of 3.7 V and 1880 mAh.

the new battery was a direct replacement=it says nuvi 500 on it.
It took ages for me to find one, so now I want to make it work
