New Toyota Vigo

These military Humvee's can be bought in Thailand, look very basic so might be surprisingly cheap.

-Put a locking box bolted inside it for all your gear. I'm trying to find out how much they are in Thailand, any guesses before we find out?

pure guess - 400K

You'll need a fuel bowser following you to get any decent range, typically averaging about 10mpg

Just found out that this is a Toyota Mega Cruiser 4,200 CC Diesel with Thai registration, offered for 1.7 million Bht used

When you see battered old 70s mk1 3 speed land cruisers asking 300k odd k.. I cant imagine a legit humvee would be 'cheap'..

Had the chance to drive a mowag eagle (equivalent to the humvee) when I was in the army, those things are fun, you can really blast through everything. But service and gas not so much...

Just too bad the Eagles weight crashes the suspension and undercarriage apart.
We've had those in the Danish Army for some years and they were more in the garage than out on operations when we took them to Iraq.

Ford Maejo has a Chili Orange 3.2 Wildrak. I ordered a grey one but have now requested the orange as its very nice in real life. I also took the 2.2 demonstrator out for a test drive and was very impressed. The engine/gearbox combination is strong and smooth a dread to think what the 3.2 is like.

There is always these set ups which solve the ramp and keep the cops happy/nothing fall out problem:

Kind of wish they were available or someone would import or make them actually.

The only thing with the tall 4wd's is they are tall to get a bike on yourself. You want to change out the front two tie down points for fixed ones, the standard ones don't instill much confidence and you need that coming back home from the hills at night. Marine stores carry good choices and you can drill and tap them into the body.

I think the new Vigo will be on par with the Ford, no idea how far away they are though, the Ford pickups are highly regarded, doubt you could go wrong there apart from resale and a shit dealer/servicing in Chiang Mai.

Now I was thinking about a barrier at the rear for when the tailgate was down but doubling up as a ramp thats a brilliant idea. What website did you see this for sale on?

I am also going to install a couple of wheel locks/chocks to make life easier like the below...

If you order one of these can you order one for me too?

I reckon I could make these quite easily but not with my gammy hand at the minute. Pretty sure these will be a piece of peepee to manufacture locally. Ill take a photo to that place along from the Airport Plaza with a 21" front wheel and see what they can do. The ramp/tailgate affair might be a wee bit more taxing for them.

I`ve found turning the front wheel into the corner of the tray and plenty of pressure on the tie downs (forks compressed about 1/2 way) works really well with mine.

You`d be able to do the same with 2 bikes.

Done plenty of k`s and never had the bike move a bit and thats with the rear wheel loose/not tied in.

Found the website for the ramp/tailgate http://www.readyramp.com/home.php I have sent an email to see if they are prepared to ship to Thailand, another option would be through Shipito.

Places like Rockymountain stock them for $259, ill se if they can ship also.

I'd like a ramp like that... Would be good to find somewhere that can make them locally -and guess that would work out far cheaper than importing.

Maybe I'll take some pics/sketches to some of the fab shops around and see if they can do.

I was thinking of contacting them re shipping to TH as well. They may consider our market and pick ups? I think the would sell a few.

Hopefully next week before I go back to work I might have one of these. The Thai guy that runs our local shop can get these made. Not sure of price yet but the one he uses looks good quality. IF it appears before Saturday I'll post a couple of photos and pass his details on to you.

I was thinking about this system when looking at Matt's Vigo (4 door) with two bikes in the back yesterday funny enough. Both rear tyres were protruding beyond the tail gate when lowered, this would interfere with the ramp being fitted correctly. One bike would be ok fitted diagonally or used with a Space Cab. Something to keep in mind before buying.

I just measured our Triton and with the tail gate down its 202cm, my 250 is 220cm so a bit of an overhang but the 140 is just under 190cm. Not to much of a problem as I can always hire something whereas the vertically challenged other half will struggle to find something small enough to reach the ground with her feet.

Vigo uses more fuel than other makes its a good vehicle but 20% more thirsty than the others

Ford is excellent but I have been on waiting list for 7 months now for new Ford pickup which delivery was promised after 3 months and am considering cancelling and getting a DMax instead.

Ive never checked whether my KTM 300 will fit reversed-in like this so that the tail gate will shut on a 4-door Toyota Vigo, I think it will.

Why would the orientation be any different ??

The rectangle is the same size in both directions.

Unless the wheel arch in some way encroaches on bed space that the bike can use in the other way..

Ive been informed next April for my Widtrak!!!! that was after an initial promise of this month. Really annoying when you see many of them driving around Chiang Mai. I'm thinking of getting a commuter in light of the waiting time, but I think I'll regret waiting as the Ford is a pretty awesome pickup.

Monsterman - what delivery date have they told you and from what dealership? I assume it's the Wildtrak your waiting on.

Is there not a new Vigo due out next year that will compete against the Ford with all the bells and whistles

With the vigo just having the face lift.. I would (based on no info) guess against that ??

Hope you can do the same thing with it pointing forward as it would be pretty difficult loading it backwards yourself.

WE ordered the Ford in January and were told delivey May 7th then June 7th then July 20th now they say october ?????? we have cancelled they are full of BS the dealer was Sakaeo Ford but its not them who cant give accurate forecasts of delivery ,my Thai son in law is well connected Exec at Thai Oil and has found out that our new truck has been built twice allready but then re-allocated to a priority EXPORT customer !!!!!we have cancelled and received our deposit back and will probably order a DMAX delivery estimated 3 months ??????

The car sales in thailand are a joke compared to Europe or USA

Congrats Mike.

You can drive across the Friendship bridge at Nong Khai with the KLX 250 in the back into Laos. On the Thai Customs, Temporary export contract for the car, they can make a notation in the notes section, at the bottom of the same form, that a Thai registered motorcycle has been temporary exported as well by the same owner.

Ordered just a few days ago, and picked up yesterday. Sweet ride...
