No ride last Friday 13th... So this week I'm definitively in for a ride.

Talked with Phil last Saturday he wanted to do the last man standing again. I got something new to propose, very similar to the LMS, loads and loads of fun.

It's a fun little loop I discovered with Alex USA a few weeks ago (http://rideasia.net/forum/two-unmapped-incomplete-singletracks-up-doi-suthep-t1162.html) that starts not far from Wat Umong, so that could be a good meeting point.

Here is the map:

Darren and I will attend as long as its a similar ride to LM2 as we need the practice , Erzberg looming an all that.

How about we meet Friday 20th January at 0930am at the junction of R 108 at the turn for R 121 which is signposted to the night safari?

Meet on the SW corner of the intersection?

You made a mistake on the map, it's one crossing before if I'm correct. Also then it's a no-go for my trail (in blue) then? LMS is ok by me, there is also a singletrack behind night safari that joins LMS that's amusing.

That's the junction to Samoeng.
Also people actually coming from chiang mai on a dirt bike will mostly take the canal road, which is the 121.

Edit: wish I could make it but just talked to my mechanic... they need another week to put those stupid graphics on... not in the best mood right now :annie

I'm in but sort of confused now on your meeting point & I live just down the street from Night Safari. Why not just meet at the round-a-bout in front of the entrance to night safari?

Jim we've got people coming new to Chiang Mai that it wont be familiar wit the area, easier for them to meet at the 108/ Night safari junction.

Trust me --- otherwise we'll waste time

EVERYONE --- PLEASE ARRIVE FULL OF FUEL.

Might join you tomorrow depending on what's happening at work. Did you guys decide on a trail? Would be interested in Max's suggestion. It's quite nice rocky singletrack all the way up to the Doi Suthep road.

Have a lot of fun guys, I really wish I could come, haven't ridden a proper bike in 3 weeks now and still won't have my bike until next week :( sucks really really bad don't know what I'm gonna do this weekend... again

Thanks Phill,
I think I can find the spot,I will take a ride down there today to make sure.

So it was a return to the "Last Man Standing " trail.

This time a lot of different riders:

Scott - Honda Xr 400R
R1 Peter - KLX 250
Al - KLX 250
Jim- KLX 250
Darren - Husaberg 300 2 -stroke
Jon - Wr 250
Tony - KXF 250
Phil- KTM 300 exc-e 2 -stroke
Matt- KLX 250--pimped out to 330cc with carb

Meeting point on the Junction of R 108/ Night Safari Rd was a success, then trying to find where darren parks his car was like trying to find Lord Luken. All figured out in the end with Jons help - No phone signal west of Night Safari, be careful.

Then westwards towards the steep mountain & up we go

Yep, started with 8 riders which quickly turned to 5
SAM_0851.jpg

Tony's bike was stalling out so John was rigging something to keep the hot start shut
SAM_0855.jpg

somewhere on the trail waiting for the group
SAM_0852.jpg

Phil heading up to LMS hill. I took the chicken route and even that has it's tough spots
SAM_0860.jpg
SAM_0861.jpg

Last of the really hard hills near the end. 3 out of 5 of us needed help. There are three bikes stuck in this photo
SAM_0863.jpg

This is probably the hardest trail I have ever done.

R1 Peter was the first casualty, only 2nd time off road did a great job , then the clutch plates started to make nasty noises, time to head back down

Just to be clear - i had more falls/ flops than anyone.

The start of the "really nasty" LMS section

Darren making it look too easy, this is really steep.

Matt giving it a shot - no problem

6729972749_b39ea996d9_b.jpg

I had a radiator hose pull out, Jon managed to fix it, then we filled it with camel back water

Rest and ciggie break 3/4 of the way up

6729967915_75a232d24e_b.jpg

Jim took the wrong route up and ended up in a nasty section

Lunch in the Hmong village

Back to Darren's secret meeting spot at the end of the day

Awesome another big group for the NOB. Who's had all their girlie hair chopped off!?

Is this the hill at the end of LMS that couldn't be done a few weeks ago?

Hia Jon you missed some quality entertainment today!! titter. That hillock in the photo is just the warm up ( so kind of you to notice the bar-net )

You're all suckers for punishment, but good on you for having another go.
I didn't see any other KLX's with dual sport tyres & road gearing at the village, so am I still the king?
I know them nasty clutch noises all too well.
