N.O.B ride 10th February, 2012

Was talking with Max last night, sounds like he's up for a ride this Friday (10th February). Sound like we may do something a little more flowing and easy.

I think Jonny's back & maybe up for it, not sure when Rockafella is back from drilling operations, he maybe back also.

Still sick since last fridays ride but want to ride & will probably make it

Im in for Friday.

Couple of route suggestions, but im up for anything:

There's some good flowing trails on the right hand side of the 1096 past the X-center. I dont have this route saved from when myself and Jon did, however Jon is going on Friday and he's just as good as a GPS!

Or there is the awesome "Death Valley" up and down. Its difficult to begin with but opens up into some incredible fast trails, especially the return leg.

I believe there will be some evening antics after the ride which im also available for :MJ

Meet Wat Umong 0930am tomorrow?

Looks like we have 4 more riders, 3 from NZ joining us tomorrow too, i'm told they're good riders

I'd like to do either of those routes, maybe some of this would fit in as well

N.O.B ride Feb 10th, 2012 - Death Valley

With our NZ contingent joining us, we did one of the more challenging trails on the southern side of Doi Suthep that ends up in Samoeng (west of Doi Suthep). The NZ boys (Stuart, Steve & Darren), had no problems, all decent riders

Some unexpected obstructions along the way

The Death Valley trail starts at the SW corner of the map, once you have headed west from R 121 for a few Km's

The ruts were massive!

.

Wat Umong seems to have become the regular meeting place, nearly lost 2 of the Kiwi's on the way there, managed to find them ..

Early on, low down there are numerous river crossings all shallow

Then some HUGE ruts on the first accent

Got all crossed up with too much power, no major drama

Lunch in Samoeng, looks like the strawberry festival had just come to an end

Then off on some more trails - The Bamboo trail, beautiful and flowing, with great views over the Mae Sa valley

Then more nasty ruts descending'

Trying to cross to the rut the other side didn't go as planned

The photo's don't do the nastiness of the ruts justice, very deep, especially this section

This is the last big nasty rut on the way back to R 1096 (Samoeng loop road)

On the way back we noticed the locals making charcoal - They ignite the wood, then cover it in sand to reduce the oxygen supply while burning, end result is charcoal.

Was great, very long day out, great exercise.

..and a group urination to end with

Alex - get it up on youtube and on the forum, I'll try get Stuart's video loaded tomorrow.

:hmm , guess i'll give this trail a miss with my truck as I am afraid that I will be stuck with all four wheels merrily spinning around in those deep ruts

Just edited some footage I recorded during our NOB ride. Camera is a bit shaky and not perfectly oriented due to the fact that I fixed it on the goggle strap, also the encoding quality is crap... Sorry and enjoy.
