We had great viz ability at the viewpoint








Got south on R13 to Vientaine and stayed at the Metropole hotel. Vientaine is a hard city to find decent cheap hotels, the Metropole is 800 bht, but the rooms are huge and clean



Bathrooms are good for a laos hotel

not the same ferry, its a car ferry here

I didn't see the small ferry when we were there maybe it was on its way over the Mekong river

I normally pay 30,000 Kip or about 120 Baht for my truck and sometimes an additional 5000 Kip (with receipt) to be able to board the ferry first - handy if it is dry and dusty as you will be the first off the ferry and have no one in front of you. Have this system, where you pay extra to get to the front, only encountered at the ferry near Xayaboury - not sure if this officially allowed but probably private enterprise at work in a socialist system.

The 30,000/35,000 Kip seems to be a kind of standard price as most of the ferries charge this amount. An exception is Huay Xay to Chiangkhong where they charge a whopping 1000 Baht for my truck to cross on the ferry.
