Flood warning for riverside villages extended

Villages alongside the nation’s major rivers will continue to experience flooding as water levels rise following more torrential rainfall in recent days, the Meteorology and Hydrology Department has warned.
People living by the Mekong, Xebangfay, Nam Ngum and Nam Xong rivers in particular must be alert to the possibility of flash floods and landslides and take steps to protect their property.
In Vientiane province, the Nam Ngum 1 dam released more water from the reservoir, which adds to the flood risk downstream.
Vientiane and the provinces of Borikhamxay, Khammuan, Savannakhet, Champassak and Vientiane have all been warned of the risk of flooding after rivers rose to danger levels.
