The well known Mekong ferry crossings in Laos are at:

10 km south west of Pakbeng, 60km north of the Muang Nguen, Laos/ Huay Khon (Nan), Thailand border crossing

Directly west of Luang Prabang, which links to the dirt trail that heads SW for 120km to Hongsa

23 KM NE of xayaburi, that then leads NE to Luang Prabang

Pak Ou, being only 26 km north of Luang Prabang, if you have a big bike, you might be able to get a big boat from Luang Prabang to take you to Ban Lathan, 10km NW of Pak Ou along the Mekong so that you can get on the trail NW towards OudomXai.

Xayaburi (Sayaburi) Mekong river ferry crossing - Ban Houayla, 23km NE of Xayaburi

This is a truck/ car ferry crossing, you can then ride the trail NE to Luang Prabang

Don't forget there's also the option of hiring a cargo boat on the Mekong River and you can then choose your Mekong river crossing exit

The Houay Xai, Laos / Chiang Khong, Thailand Mekong river ferry crossing (bridge construction underway). Incredibly busy due to it being the nearest gateway to the China border.

The Pakbeng Mekong river crossing at Ban Parkhouaykhen

10 km south west of Pakbeng is the Ban Parkhouaykhen Mekong river ferry crossing, the ferry toll fare varies dramatically day to day here!

Excellent information here Phil. Thanks for taking the time to post.

"Muang Mounlapamok Mekong river ferry crossing, 70 km south of Pakse"

Is this the Southern most ferry crossing the Mekong available in Laos before Cambodia?

About 110 km south of Pakxe (in south Laos) is the Island of Don Kong. There are lots of small ferry options & a large car ferry off the eastern side of the island linking to R 13 s.

In the very south of Laos at the Cambodian border, it's possible to get a speedboat between in the islands on the Mekong river

when I was in Don Det, I went to see the irrawaddy dolphins on a boat. We first had to stop on the cambodian side to pay$1 each as the dolphins were on the cambo side of the mekong.
maybe they could let you take the bike on the boat?
Do we have to use the international crossings?
