I just bought a Honda CB500F and asked about the first service-check at 1000km, as I heard it was expensive (3400 Thai baht) due to the fact that valve check should be done (yes it is mentioned in the manual).

I was told that the new models of the CB500 series do NOT need that valve-check anymore at the first service-check and that the costs would be about 1600 Thai baht (depending on the kind of oil you will be using).

I do not know as of from what date it are considered "new models" but in the Thai manual you can see that the marker for the valve-check at the first service-check is removed.

I have read elsewhere that it's a good idea to get the valve clearances checked at the first service. The only bike I've owned where this was a necessity was the KTM950ADV I used to own in the mid-2000s. It's a pain but better safe than sorry.
