Blokes Who Can
About 10 days ago there were some problems at the Chong Arn Ma border crossing (called the An Ses border crossing in Cambodia) located in Tambon Song, Amphoe Nam Yuen, Ubon Ratchathani. This crossing is considered a gateway to the Emerald triangle connecting Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. The Thai side closed the crossing in response to roadwork on the Cambodian side in Preah Vihear province. Thai soldiers approached the Cambodian road crews and ordered them to stop work because they were in a disputed area and in violation of a memorandum of understanding to not develop the area.
However, after a meeting yesterday between Preah Vihear provincial governor Oum Mara and Serm Chainarong, the governor of Thailand’s adjacent Ubon Ratchathani province, as well as military representatives from both sides it has been decided to re-open the crossing again on Friday (today) at 9 a.m. Friday. It was also agreed that in the future, if Cambodia wants to pave the road, they will inform Thailand first. Officials from both sides agreed to reopen the checkpoint because it would benefit communities on both sides as goods can be exchanged.
