(KPL) A decision signed by Minister of Public Works and Transport has ordered the end to the collection of bridge-road tolls.

Mr. Sommard Pholsena, Minister of Public Works and Transport, signed the decision on 6 March 2011.

Under the decision, the collection of tolls at 28 sites on roads and bridges nationwide has ended since 0 o'clock on 7 March 2011.

Road-bridge tolls collected at the following sites will be cancelled:

1. Park Ngao Bridge on Road No. 3 between Houai Sai and Mom village, northern Bokeo province,

2. Nam Tinesane Bridge on Road 13 North between Oudomsay and the Chinese border, northern Luang Namtha province,

3. Km-14 Bridge on Road 2W, between Oudomsay and Park Beng, northern Oudomsay province,

4. Km-32 Bridge on Road 13 North between Oudomsay and Park Mong, northern Oudomsay province,

5. Nam Harm Bridge on Road No 6 between Samneua and Phou Lao, northeastern Houaphanh province,

6. Thang Long Junction on Road No. 6 between Samneua and the Vietnamese border, northeastern Houaphanh province, c

7. Nam Mat River Bridge on Road No. 7 between Phonsavanh and the Vietnamese border, northern Xiengkhouang province,

8. Nam Ngiou River Bridge on Road No. 1D between Phonsavanh and Khoune district, northern Xiengkhouang province,

9. Nam Kuen River Bridge on Road No. 7 between Phonsavanh and Phou Khoune district, northern Xiengkhouang province,

23. Mekong River Bridge in Pakse on Road No 16 at Km-2 between Pakse and the Thai border, southern Champassak province,

24. Houai Banglieng on Road 13 South at Km-700 between Pakse and the Cambodian border, southern Champassak province,

25. Km-12 village on Road 16 at Km-12 between Pakse and Paksong, southern Champassak province,

26. Nonglao village on Road 16 at Km-5 from Thateng, between Thateng and Sekong, southern Sekong province,

27. Kagnue village on Road 1I at Km-10 from Attapeu-Sekong, southern Attapeu province,

28. Phoukeua village on Road 18B at Km-102 between Attapeu and the Vietnamese border, southern Attapeu province.

The decision was in reference to a decree on the organisation and activities and operation of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of the Prime Minister No. 373/PM issued on 22 October 2007, a decree on the Fund for the Maintenance of National Roads of the Prime Minister No. 09/PM issued on 15 January 2001, minutes to the meeting of the Prime Minister and his deputies No. 05 issued on 17 February 2011, and a request of the Fund for the Maintenance of National Roads No. 5123/FMNR issued on 25 February 2011.

The decision also assigns Savannakhet province authorities to take full responsibility for the collection of tolls at the Lao-Thai Friendship Mekong River Bridge 2 in Savannakhet.

The collection of tolls, the revenue and expenses of the maintenance of bridge and relevant administration shall follow the practices and operation of the Lao-Thai Friendship Mekong River Bridge 1 in Vientiane Capital.
